I was born in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia. Living in the aftermath of the Khmer Rouge was especially difficult. The genocide slaughtered many educators, handicapping Cambodia's potential success. Schools offered limited subjects. Many children, including myself, didn't know much about the world beyond our borders. Due to my family's financial struggle, there was no guarantee I would finish school. Yet, I kept working hard in class and always pushed myself to the limit to accomplish my dreams. Thanks to the opportunity provided by both my Khmer and American family, my life has forever changed.
